When you receive hospital care, the hospital and each treating doctor bill independently. Your surgeon, anaesthetist, and hospital each submit separate accounts to your medical aid — this is standard practice across South African private healthcare. It is not unusual to receive 3–5 separate accounts from a single hospital admission.
